Formula DRIFT Announces the Inaugural Formula Drift Academy at Yas Marina Circuit

Formula DRIFT and Yas Marina Circuit have today confirmed the addition of a Formula Drift Academy to the exciting schedule of events surrounding the forthcoming debut of Formula DRIFT in Abu Dhabi.

Taking place over 2 days at Yas Marina Circuit, Formula DRIFT will invite 10 of the best local drifting drivers to participate in an intensive training program alongside established Formula DRIFT professional drivers Michael Essa and Tony Brakiohapa.

On Saturday February 19th, local drivers will learn about drift vehicle preparation and setup before taking to the Yas Marina Dynamic Area for individual coaching sessions in drifting technique. From the ten local participants, 4 drivers will be selected to proceed to a second training session on February 23rd where they will take to the Formula DRIFT circuit on the Yas Marina North Complex amongst the full grid of Formula DRIFT drivers for advanced coaching.

The final test for the local UAE drivers will be to take centre stage during the Formula DRIFT event on February 25th & display their skills in front of their home crowd and under the watchful eye of a global online audience.

Hold the Line Pro-Am Series

Tony Angelo is proud to announce his newest drifting endeavor, the Hold the Line Formula D Pro-Am series. Hold the Line (“HTL”) will fill the Pro-Am void that exists in the Northeastern US. HTL will be a four event series held at two of the best drift tracks in the region, the venerable Englishtown Raceway in Old Bride, NJ, and the fresh, state of the art Monticello Motor Club in Monticello, NY. Over the past 8 years, Englishtown has been the host of many groundbreaking drift events, while Monticello is a superbly appointed, state of the art facility that has only recently opened its doors to drifting.

“I’m really happy to announce the Hold the Line series to all the up and coming drivers from my neck of the woods, and I’m excited to be working with two world-class facilities to deliver what is surely going to be a fun and exciting series.” said Angelo.

The HTL program will deliver full FD licenses to the top series finishers. Hold the Line also boasts such features as Drift demos by some of the best competitors in the sport today, and a judging panel headed by Tony Angelo, himself. Hold the Line will work in conjunction with Clubloose at Englishtown, and D-Up! at Monticello Motor Club. (coming soon)

Formula DRIFT Returns to Panama City this Weekend

Formula DRIFT will return for the third consecutive time to Panama City for the annual demo that is part of Xtreme Wheels & Drift.  The event will be held at the Figali Convention Center on February 12.

Panama has a growing car culture of enthusiasts and a large fan base for drifting, who first saw professional action 3 years ago.  The drift demo held by professional Formula DRIFT drivers is held to help continue the promotion of the sport within the region with the goal to hold a professional event at a racetrack.  Panama is a major focal point for commerce around the globe with over 14,000 ships, carrying over 300 million tons of cargo through the canal each year.

Long Beach, Calif. – Oct 6, 2010 – Formula DRIFT finished the inaugural season of brought to you by at Round 7: Final Fight at Irwindale Speedway and registered over 139,000 unique viewers watching the event live. This put the final total of over 1,000,000 unique viewers this season for the innovative program.

Formula DRIFT partnered with to distribute the LiveStream of Round 7: Final Fight at Irwindale Speedway. Over 128 countries tuned in to watch over 9,500,000 minutes! of action streamed this year live. Some other impressive stats included over 2,800,000 views and 32,000 Facebook messages sent.
