Formula DRIFT further expands its reach in Asia with the addition of an experienced new affiliate agreement
Formula DRIFT has entered into an agreement with Funcity Drift, recognizing the organization as the official Formula DRIFT affiliate in Taiwan. Under the agreement, Funcity Drift has committed to adhering to parts of the Official FD Rulebook and will work to nurture drivers in the region. The goal of both organizations is to create a potential pathway to a licensing series in Taiwan, similar to the long-running and highly successful Formula DRIFT Japan series. Additionally, the aim is to ultimately provide Taiwanese drivers with a pathway to obtain a Formula DRIFT competition license to compete in the United States. Furthermore, Formula DRIFT will also serve as a resource for Funcity Drift, assisting with the development of the Taiwan series, providing promotional and marketing opportunities, as appropriate.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Funcity Drift to the global Formula DRIFT community and look forward to working with them to grow the series in Taiwan,” said Ryan Sage, President of Formula DRIFT. “By leveraging Formula DRIFT’s reputation as the most successful drift organization in the world, we aim to develop both the sport and competitive opportunities for drivers in Taiwan. Formula DRIFT currently features drivers from more than 14 countries, and we look forward to broadening that reach by providing the opportunity for competition licenses to successful drivers from Taiwan. We’re confident that Taiwan represents an incredibly promising market to develop both the sport and future driving Champions.”
In 2024, Funcity Drift organized the TDGP series, representing the largest drift series in Taiwan history. The series saw significant improvement in driver skill and vehicle performance, with more young drivers (including sim racers) joining the entry list. A number of race cars built overseas were also introduced. The affiliate program aims to accelerate the growth of the sport, raise its visibility, and integrate international drivers through team-based participation, fostering greater collaboration and knowledge transfer.
The 2024 season featured more than 40 drivers competing in three events spanning five rounds plus one Taiwanese Invitational event. For 2025, Funcity Drift will focus on developing the TDGP Group N for entry-level competition, while refining TDGP Groups A and B into more advanced series for the five-round 2025 Championship. Drivers in Groups A and B will accumulate points during the season, qualifying for the year-end Taiwanese Invitational.

In 2024, events typically attracted up to 2000 spectators per round, while urban street races can exceed 10,000 in attendance. The numbers reflect increasing public motorsport awareness, and explains why the goal of Funcity Drift is to host engaging, exciting events in each city. While keeping the events fun, the racers must adhere to strict rules and regulations, and by working with Formula DRIFT, Funcity Drift aims to align its events with global regulations to become part of the FD family.
“We’re committed to developing Taiwanese drivers and enhancing the sport’s public image. Our ultimate goal is to provide the opportunity for the most successful Taiwanese drivers to obtain a Formula DRIFT competition license to participate internationally. This will further strengthen our series and elevate the overall standards,” said Robert Tsai, President of Funcity Drift.
Please note that while Formula DRIFT is an American-based motorsports series, it has established itself as the leading competitive drift series and brand both globally and across Asia. It currently supports a licensed partnership with Formula DRIFT Japan as well as a long-running series in Southeast Asia, and a new affiliate partnership with SEADS Group.
