RESULTS FROM FD PROSPEC QUALIFYING

  1. Andy Hateley (USA) – The Habanero
  2. Rich Whiteman (USA) ­– Freedom Motorsportz / Auto Rim Shop Toyota JZX100
  3. Tommy Lemaire (Canada) – Mspek TLO Nissan S14.5

NOTES

  • Orlando Speedworld hosts the opening round of the 2022 Formula DRIFT Link ECU PROSPEC Championship as well as Round 3 of the FD PRO Championship
  • The Speedworld track features a banked oval, with drivers using part of a figure-8 course
  • Weather was warm and humid for the qualifying session, which finished after dark
  • Formula DRIFT has reintroduced championship points for the top three drivers in the FCP Euro Qualification session to put more emphasis on a consistent weekend performance
  • All PROSPEC teams must use Link ECU engine management as well as GT Radial tires supplied and fitted by Tire Stacks
  • FCP Euro and Royal Purple are both offering contingency programs for PROSEPC competitors who meet defined criteria
  • Top qualifier Hateley debuted a new BMW chassis known simply as The Habanero. He was awarded 92 points and received 3 PROSPEC Championship points
  • Second-place Whiteman scored a very respectable 88 points and led qualifying for the majority of the session. Third-placed Lemaire kept him close company with 87 points
  • Two-time and reigning PROSPEC Champion Dmitriy Brutskiy could only score 78 points, qualifying in 11th place
  • Top Rookie qualifier was Richard Advani (India) driving the HP Chasers Racing Drift Corvette who scored 69 points and placed 18th
  • 32 drivers were qualifying for positions in the Top 32 competition heats. Provided every driver completed a run, all would move forward. Under the Knockout Qualifying Format, the bottom eight drivers must run a second time to fill the final places.
  • After KQF, Rye O’Connor (USA), Cory Talaska (USA), Rudy Hansen (USA), Amanda Sorensen (USA), Carlos Arrieta (USA), Zach Farrar (USA) and Kasey Kohl (USA) all qualified from the competition heats. Jack Davis (USA) experienced problems on both his runs in the JDavis Drifting BMW E36 and his elimination gives Hateley a competition bye run
