Short Stop at the Chateau Elan in Atlanta

After setting up at the track all day a few of us headed over to the Chateau Elan, which is a winery that is also founded by the owner of Panoz Motorsport and the American Le Mans series. Each year we try to stop by to grab a drink at Paddy’s Bar, an Irish pub, and have a nice glass of Guiness. This is a great spot to relax while in Atlanta.

We just landed to Atlanta yesterday. The set-up has begun to prepare for this weekend’s big event. The weather is good so far, but we are expecting some heat mixed with some showers during the weekend. This will make for an interesting event. The drivers look good during practice and should be putting up a good show! Check out the pics…

Captain’s Log Day 6: main event day into night into morning to airport..from Jim

The team arrived on-site for the sun even came up. We knew that it would be a hard and long day but we were excited to see how the competition unfolded. Some of the Malaysians adapted to the course the quickest and had some of the highest entry speeds. I’ll leave the details of the competition to the media that was there. At the end Ryuji Miki, Tengku Djan and Mad Mike stood on the podium. All the heat and sweat was well worth it for all of us as we made drifting history as we staged the largest drifting event in Asia; the event was sold out to 11,000 fans! This event will set the precedent for future drifting events in Asia. Formula D has a long term commitment and partnership with Binter the event promoter and there will be more FD in Asia to come!

Of course after our 13 hour day at the track, we went back to the hotel, showered up and got ready to go eat. But we had to watch the start of the F1 race. Same thing, we were fat asses, went and devoured local food. Back to the hotel, passed out and woke up to head to the airport.

Thanks for following along! I am jet-lagged so.. I’ll just go lay down now.

Captains Log Day 5…from Jim

Woke up today and saw that the sky was clear, which means sunburn and lots of heat. Like it wasn’t bad enough that with cloud cover you can still get burned and sweat a ton. Today was the proving day for the drivers as the official enter the competition and hit the track for practice. Initally, it seems that everyone was very amprehensive but after a while it start to show to us who was standing out. Check out pics of the marshalls meeting, drivers meeting and how the course looks.

Captains Log Day 4…from Jim

Sorry folks, no camera again, but Ryan and Jarod should both be providing some more pics. Today was long. We were at the track all day, organized the course, gave some media rides and got about 12 teams set up. So after a long, hot, humid day, everyone was tired and yes, hungry again. We walked down to Paragon, one of the many huge malls but it wasn’t for shopping. We went to Din Tai Fung. Okay, yes I know we have it in LA but the closer to the original DTF in Taipei, the better these wonderful juicy pork dumplings tastes, so I think. Again, pictures of our getting fat!
