NOTES
- Formula DRIFT officials made a number of small changes to the course for 2021, but it’s essentially familiar territory for the experienced drivers, if not the rookies
- PROSPEC qualifying took place in 93-degree temperatures, with a threat of storms for the PRO session, which never arrived. The PRO teams ran in cooler evening temps and under new lighting installed for the event
- There was a surprise at the top of the FD PRO Championship session as Alec Robbins (USA) emerged as number one qualifier in the Fasetto Nissan 350Z. Currently sitting 20th in the title race and a rookie in 2020, Robbins strung together an almost flawless run to deservedly head the field
- Robbins gets a Top 32 bye run into the Top 16 after Federico Sceriffo (Italy) failed to complete a qualifying run in the FFF Drifting Department Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorella
- Second-placed Justin Pawlak (USA) will hope to finish well in the competition heats to restore an otherwise inconsistent 2021 season in his Falken Tire Ford Mustang, especially in comparison to third-placed Fredric Aasbo (Norway) whose Rockstar Energy Drink Toyota GR Supra currently sits third in the FD PRO Championship
- 2021 FD PRO Championship points leader, Chelsea DeNofa (USA), qualified his BC Racing / Nitto Tire Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5-D in sixth, one place ahead of Matt Field (USA) who is one point behind DeNofa thanks to his ability in the Falken Tire / Drift Cave Chevrolet Corvette
- Branden Sorensen (USA) was again the top FD PRO rookie, putting his 212 Performance / Sorensen Motorsports BMW in fifth place
- With 36 PROSPEC drivers attempting to qualify for Round 3, four would be eliminated following a tense Knockout Qualifying Format (KQF), which sees the bottom 8 drivers run a second time
- Top PROSPEC qualifier was Christian Nelson (USA) driving the RTS / Wallis Fab Nissan 350Z. As a series rookie, this is Nelson’s best qualifying result and puts him in pole position for tomorrow’s competition heats
- The top three PROSPEC qualifiers are all series rookies making their first appearance at the top of the table and throwing down the gauntlet to the more experienced drivers
- Joint Link ECU PROSPEC Championship leaders Dmitriy Brutskiy (Belarus) and Nick Noback (USA) qualified fifth and eighth, respectively
