Last night the IZOD Indycar Series invited Formula DRIFT to participate in the “Race to the Party” event in Hollywood. Hollywood Blvd was shut down in front of Mann’s Chinese Theatre and the Kodak Theatre and thousands of fans gathered to watch Formula DRIFT vehicles do a demonstration, Indycar pit stop challenge, and a special performance by Camp Freddy.
The fans were blown away by the drifting action of drivers Joon Maeng – Full Tilt Poker / Nitto Tires Mazda RX-8, Justin Pawlak – Falken Mazda RX-7, Michael Essa – Nitto Tires BMW 335i, Mike Whiddett – Need for Speed Mazda RX-8, and Samuel Hubinette – SHR Dodge Challenger.
The Full Tilt Poker Mazda Nitto Drift Team setup up the Mazda RX8 earlier this morning in preparation of IZOD’s “Race to the Party” event in Hollywood at 6PM tonight. Full Tilt Poker Mazda Nitto pilot Joon Maeng will be performing drift exhibitions during the event in promotions for the Long Beach Gran Prix. The exhibition will occur immediately in front of world famous Mann’s Chinese Theatre. Thousands of spectators are scheduled to attend as well as numerous media. “What a better place to hold a major press event for The Long Beach Gran Prix this weekend. It is simply amazing to see
the Full Tilt Poker Mazda RX8 in front of Mann’s Chinese theatre and on top of that a few steps away from the Kodak theatre. This is truly the center of Los Angeles. Right after the IZOD event in Hollywood, The Full Tilt Poker Mazda Nitto Drift Team will make its way to downtown Long Beach where it will compete in Formula Drift’s Team Drift competition in front of over 175,000 fans. In conjunction with the Long Beach Gran Prix, The Full Tilt Poker Drift Team will also be doing exhibition runs on all three days of the Gran Prix. “It is quite an amazing spectacle to be competing and exhibiting at the Long Beach Gran Prix. Formula DRIFT pilot, Joon Maeng has just produced a video of his first test session with the Full Tilt Poker Mazda Nitto RX8. Joon warmed up quickly to the racecar and enjoyed the endless power the Mazdatrix turbo 3 rotor was able to deliver. “I was astonished with testing the Full Tilt Poker MAZDA RX-8! First time driving a vehicle with 604 WHP and 486 TORQUE! Those phenomenal Nitto NT05’s were smoking up the entire track and had plenty of traction and predictability! Bergenholtz Racing did an amazing job building this machine! I’m still trying to adapt with this powerful Mazda Trix 3 rotor Tial turbo Motec M800 setup.” Said Joon Maeng pilot of the Full Tilt Poker Mazda Nitto RX8.
Overall, the test session for the Full Tilt Poker Mazda Nitto Drift Team went well and the team is currently making improvements. “We found a number of gremlins in the car that Joon managed to shake out of the Mazda. Joon did really good and despite the gremlins was able to practice and burn through 12 Nitto NT05’s. I know he’s going to get even crazier when we address and remove all the gremlins. I know it’s going to be a great Formuila Drift season!” Said Ron Bergenholtz Team Manager of the Full Tilt Poker Mazda Nitto Drift Team.
