10. Taguchi vs. Aasbo – My Favorite Battle
This took my heart for favorite battle of the weekend even though it was one of the more low key battles of the night. I think it stole the show for me as I had a much lower expectation that it would be a throw down compared to other matchups on the night. Taguchi brought it once again and drove strong on top of running over the front half of his car while leading against Aasbo! He really forced Aasbo to earn this victory and advance to the next round and Aasbo pushed like a man fighting for his championship life.
Chelsea Denofa has been stuck in a rut this season. Outside of his unexpected 3rd place podium finish in Orlando, Denofa has found himself consistently earning a first-round win in the Top 32 round, but losing in the Top 16 round of every other FD event this season. Frustratingly for Denofa, he had consistently out-qualified his Ford Mustang RTR and Nitto Tire teammate Vaughn Gittin Jr. In this round, the luck would fall Denofa’s way and the win at the Texas “Showdown” event just outside of Dallas would avenge a 29-event drought from the top step of the podium. The 2019 Formula DRIFT Black Magic PRO Championship and Formula DRIFT Link ECU PRO2 Championship set up camp this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway near Dallas for the Advance Auto Parts Showdown presented by Rain-X. As the final round for the Link ECU PRO2 Championship, and with 12 drivers having a mathematical chance of taking the title, the capacity crowd was guaranteed intense entertainment. It was also the penultimate round of the PRO category, with the top six drivers separated by just 76 points, so there would be a lot of pressure on the top teams to try to break away from the pack.
Good morning!
Finding himself on the podium at Crandon a couple weeks back in #Brocky, Vaughn looks to keep the party going this weekend in his Mustang RTR. Following a full day of practice yesterday, Vaughn’s run to the top step begins today with Formula Drift Texas qualifying. Today’s qualifying will present Vaughn with the opportunity to claim his first Top Qualifier Award of the season.
