Long Beach, Calif. – September 10, 2016 – Formula DRIFT presented by BlackVue returned to Texas for Round 7: Autozone Showdown presented by Black Magic. Matt Field in the Falken Tire / Driftcave Motorsports Nissan 240 takes his first ever victory. Texas Motor Speedway played host for the action packed event. With only one event until the final event of the season the drivers put it all on the line in their chase for the championship. Heading into the event only 15 points separated the Top 3 drivers. “The competition tonight showcased the diversity and talent of the driver pool,” said Jim Liaw, President of Formula DRIFT. “We had a mix of past champions and young guns drive their hearts out at a very high level on a challenging and competitive course.” The event was highly competitive with many battles often too close to call for the judges leading to several “one more time” calls. In the Great 8, returning champion Fredric Aasbo in the Rockstar Energy / Nexen Tire SR by Toyota tC, who entered the event second in points by only five points faced the 2-time champion and point leader, Chris Forsberg in the NOS Energy Drink / Hankook Nissan 370Z. This battle was significant for the championship chase. An over correction by Aasbo opened the door for Forsberg to enter the semi-finals. Forsberg met the young gun, Alec Hohnadell in the Enjuku / Get Nuts Lab / Nexen Tire Nissan 240, in the semi-finals. Hohnadell had car issues throughout the competition, which got the best of him helping to advance Forsberg into the Finals. Matt Field faced Kristaps Bluss in the HGK / Mast / Motul / Achilles BMW M3. A major mistake by Bluss on his chase run took him off course to give Field the win. Forsberg and Field met in the Finals. Forsberg drove aggressive, but that lead to him running into Field and that ultimately gave Field his first Formula DRIFT victory. This marks Forsberg’s sixth consecutive podium and he now leads the chase for the championship by 36 points with one event remaining. “I knew we could do it, it took a little while, but we are there,” said Matt Field, winner of Round 7: Showdown. “We did it. We got the “W.” Thank you to everybody.” The 2016 Formula DRIFT Pro Championship will continue to Round 8: O’Reilly Auto Parts Title Fight sponsored by Gumout on October 7-8, 2016 at Irwindale Speedway. It’s been a lot of work on our part and with our sponsors Ark Performance, Feal Suspension, and Falken Tire,” said Aurimas “Odi” Bakchis, winner of Round 6: Throwdown. “I really want to keep this momentum going into the next round and am excited for the rest of the season.”

Fredric Aasbo Takes the Victory and the Lead in the Standings
Long Beach, Calif. – July 25, 2015 – Formula DRIFT presented by GoPro returned to Evergreen Speedway for Round 5: Throwdown. Fredric Aasbo in the Rockstar Energy Drink / Hankook Scion tC takes the victory and lead in both the Pro Championship and World Championship standings.
Round 5: Throwdown provided plenty of on-track action and excitement for the capacity crowd at Evergreen Speedway. With shifting weather conditions, the drivers had to make constant adjustments throughout the weekend making for a technical competition. Over 330,000 fans tuned into the Driftstream over the weekend to see the action unfold.
“This was quite an event as we witnessed the consistency of Aasbo to take the victory and see the talents of a young driver in Alec Hohnadell to reach his first podium,” said Jim Liaw, President of Formula DRIFT. “This event saw a shakeup in the Pro Championship standings, which will be interesting to see how the rest of the season plays out.”
The semi-finals saw Alec Hohnadell in the 11 Racing Nissan S14 go against veteran Justin Pawlak in the Roush Performance / Car Crafters Ford Mustang. Hohnadell advanced to the Finals with both drivers receiving a double zero on the second run of their battle and having the advantage on the first run. Pat Goodin in the Enjuku Racing / Falken Tire Nissan S13 lost out to the consistent driving of Fredric Aasbo. Pawlak finished in third place with the higher qualifying position than Goodin. The rain began to pour into the Finals and Aasbo proved that he can handle the wet conditions taking his second consecutive victory and his third victory of the season. Aasbo moves into the top position in both the Pro Championship and World Championship standings. Hohnadell earned second place for his first career Pro Championship podium.
“What a wild rollercoaster of an event,” said Fredric Aasbo, winner of Round 5: Throwdown. “It was wet, it was dry, it was intermediate and I think growing up on the snowy, frozen lakes of Norway was a huge advantage. We kept it cool and ended up with the win and are exactly where we want to be leading the points championship.”

GT Radial Joins Series as Tire Supplier
Long Beach, Calif. – March 4, 2014 – Formula DRIFT has announced the return of all 4 Major Tire Partners; Achilles, Falken, Hankook and Nitto and returning Tire Suppliers; Kenda, Maxxis and Yokohama. In addition, GT Radial signs on as a new Tire Supplier for the 2014 season.
Formula DRIFT continues to be the proving grounds for tire manufacturers. The extreme conditions created through competitive drifting pushes the limits of the drivers, cars and the tires creating the ultimate performance test for the brands. Current returning tire partners include: Falken Tire (11th season), Hankook Tire (current tire manufacturer champion, 8th season), Nitto Tire (9th season), Achilles (3rd season), Yokohama (3rd season), Maxxis Tire (3rd season) and Kenda (5th season).
“We are proud to have all 4 Major Tire Partners and 3 Tire Suppliers return to the Series and happy to welcome GT Radial for the 2014 season,” said Jim Liaw, President and Co-Founder of Formula DRIFT. “Tires are such an integral part of drifting and the demands that the sport places on the product is high. These are off the shelf products for the everyday consumer and thus have immediate real world application.”
GT Radial will enter the Series with their Champiro SX2 tire, developed for driving enthusiasts who want higher levels of traction, response and driving control in dry and wet conditions. Driving for GT Radial will be back-to-back feeder series champion, Tyler Wolfson.
“As the premier North American professional drifting competition with a very large and growing fan base, Formula DRIFT is an ideal platform for demonstrating the technology and performance of the GT Radial brand to North American drivers, “ said Armand Allaire, vice president of marketing for Giti Tire USA, which markets and sells GT Radial tires in North America.
